“The Upholding Hand of a Loving God”

He upholds

by Dona Hake

God desires that we stay in His presence, and speak with Him about anything that concerns or is bothering you. When we neglect communing with our Lord during hardships our soul will be weighted down. We have all done it…something bothers us, it troubles our heart, and we just think about it over and over. Praise God for those times in which we come to our spiritual senses and whisper within ourselves, “What is going on here?….Why is this bothering me so badly?” It is during these wake up calls that we are reminded that our hope must be in God. In the Psalms many times it is written were David speaks these words…

Psalm 42:5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.

Psalm 42:6 O “my God, my soul is cast down within me…”

I picture in my mind David writing the Psalms in the quietness of the night while his eyes were watchful over his flock of sheep. I am sure that his days were long days, and some were more challenging than others. There are a handful of Psalms where David used the term “cast down.” This is a term used for a sheep that has turned over on its back and cannot get up again by itself. Sheep have a way of getting themselves in trouble, and they can be helpless as well. A good shepherd seeks to understand every aspect of the care of his sheep.

I want to make emphasis on the fact that a sheep cannot get up again by itself. A “cast” sheep is a sad sight. It lays on its back, and as its feet are in the air, it struggles frantically to get back up again. Sometimes it will make little bleating cries for help and just lays there frustrated. If the shepherd does not arrive on time, the sheep will die. Since a sheep that is cast is in such a helpless state, it is also vulnerable to attack by predators.

Psalm 37:24 Amplified Bible

“Though he falls, he shall not be utterly cast down,

for the Lord grasps his hand in support and upholds him.”

I encourage you that in those times of being down and feeling helpless that you would look up for His hand. It is there for you to grasp! He will lift you up and put you on your feet again. Our Lord is a good Shepherd!

“From the Rising Of the Sun”

from the rising of the sun

by Dona Hake

From the rising of the sun till the time it sets, His Name is to be praised! As I was driving to church this past Sunday morning I was enjoying God’s magnificent creation.   Everywhere I looked I could see His handiwork….the sky, clouds, and trees, and He once again reminded me of His faithfulness, and His fresh mercies for my brand new day.  Every morning He  brings the daylight by the sun that He created, and in the night the sky is lit by the beautiful moon and stars!    These beautiful acts speak of His faithfulness ever since the day of Creation.   With each new day, He greets us with His love and the  promise that He is our Shepherd that walks faithfully along side us every minute of the day.

Let us praise Him for His never ending love, and His promise to stay faithful to us all the days of our life.      In a world in which things are changing constantly  we can be assured that He will never changes.    Changes that come in this life  can make us feel uncomfortable, sometimes it can cause our hearts to fear, but He who is faithful has given us a spirit of power and love and a sound mind.    By Him we can partake of the peace that surpasses our understanding, and it will guard our heart and mind in a most  amazing way.  If confusion seems to be in every corner of your world, know that He has the wisdom and answers that you need. Let us remember today, we serve a faithful, and loving God. I leave you with the scripture…

James 1:17 ERV
“Everything good comes from God. Every perfect gift is from him. These good gifts come down from the Father who made all the lights in the sky. But God never changes like the shadows from those lights. He is always the same.”

God, we thank You that You are the Creator and Sustainer of the heavens,   We are in awe of  Your faithfulness and Your promise that You will never change.  We look forward this day for what You have planned in our day, and we thank You for leading and directing us by Your wisdom!   In Jesus Name! amen.

“We Will Not Be Moved”

not moved

To reach a great height a person needs to have great depth.
Anonymous

“…but the root of those who are right with God WILL NOT BE MOVED.”  Proverbs 12:3   May we stay aware that the roots of our heart must continue to grow deep in Him. This is a continual process of feeding and maintaining our strength through God and His daily provision for us. This does not happen just by going to church once a week, it is a lifestyle of living and drawing upon the Almighty God. We have a vital part in the process of our growth in Him.   Yes, we live by grace but we must do our part by staying spiritually strong and remaining obedient to Him.    If this is your heart’s desire to be greatly used by Him know that He is ready to take you there as you apply your heart to His commands!

Jeremiah 17:7-9

Amplified Bible (AMP)

“[Most] blessed is the man who believes in, trusts in, and relies

on the Lord, and whose hope and confidence the Lord is.
For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters that spreads

out its roots by the river; and it shall not see and fear when

heat comes; but its leaf shall be green. It shall not be anxious

and full of care in the year of drought, nor shall it cease yielding fruit.”

This tree that Jeremiah speaks of is the man who has totally trusted on the Lord God above. This tree thrives on the waters it is planted by. Notice the scripture says that THE HEAT WILL COME and SO WILL THE YEAR OF THE DROUGHT. In our lives we too will face times where the heat is on yet we can know that because our roots of faith are strong, we need not fear nor grow weary nor do the waters of His river run dry. In the year of drought we can be free from care for we will NOT stop yielding fruit. Praise the living God that has promised to sustain us!

Proverbs 12:3

“…but the roots of the righteous can’t be disturbed.”

“Purified and Cleansed By His Love!”

purified

by Dona Hake

God provided a way through Jesus Christ that we can remain free from the torment that sin brings.   I thank God everyday for the power of His forgiveness.   I thank Him that only through Him can I forgive those that offend me, and I thank Him that He helps me to grow that I can rise above offense.  But what about the times we stumble?   Sin that is left go and not dealt with properly is the breeding ground for torment and hindrance in our walk with the Lord.

There is much torment in feeling guilty. It kind of feels like a prison because you are no longer free from the inside out. Memories and thoughts of the wrong you may have done seem to have voices, and they continue to haunt and remind you of what you think is irreparable. If you have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus, you can partake of His wonderful forgiveness. Let us treasure within us how wonderful it is that the Lord will forgive us when we mess up and He will always cleanse our hearts. As we humble ourselves to Him admitting our wrongs and shortcomings, He is desiring so much to bring us back to that place of feeling clean again. Let us look at David in the Psalms. His plea to God was for restoration of his heart in a time in which he majorly messed up and his heart was heavy with guilt and anguish.

Psalm 51:7, 8, 10

“Remove my sin and make me pure.”
Wash me until I am whiter than snow!
Let me hear sounds of joy and happiness again.

God, create a pure heart in me,
and make my spirit strong again.”

Today let us treasure the power of forgiveness from the One who is able to cleanse and purify. I love how verse eight says “Let me hear sounds of joy and happiness again.” This is what restoration is about. When we experience freedom from guilt we are able to experience the joy that was robbed by our sin and guilt. Only God is able to create within us a pure heart, pick us back up, and cause us to continue on in His will. Thank God for the power of forgiveness!

What a precious testimony…

God desires to use us
by Dona Hake

The Lord is preparing us for His use, and He is wanting to display His love any way He can!  Have you ever wondered at the beginning of the day, and ask Him “Lord, how will You use me today? I do not know about you, but I ask the Lord this question a lot. I desire with all my heart to be used by Him. Sometimes we may have ideas in our own minds how we will be used, but sometimes I think the Lord uses us in ways that we may never expect.   Sometimes He may even use you in a way that you thought to be impossible.   “Now unto Him, who is able to do above and beyond all that we dare ask or think…” Ephesians 3:20

Have you ever needed a word of wisdom or a word of encouragement, and it seemed  like God provided the person to walk into your path and the timing could not be any more perfect than the moment it happened?  Yesterday I shared with you that God is the potter and we are the clay. He molds, He works within us, He sees where we need to change, and it is vitally important that we permit Him to work on our hearts. Then there will be times where He may call upon us to be used by Him, to be His appointed vessel for a specific reason.

Today’s devotional has been inspired from something I read last evening. This is a little testimony of a precious couple that I know, and I had the privilege of photographing their wedding day. Now they have a precious and beautiful baby girl. What a delight and joy she has been to them.  I asked this young lady for permission to share this with you, and I pray that it will bless your heart as it touched and blessed mine. This young lady shared that they were out celebrating her husband’s birthday last evening.   Never were they expecting their evening to turn out like this…

“Pretty sure Matt had the most amazing Birthday dinner tonight…💜

We went on a dinner date with Bella to Mitsuru. At the table next to us was a frail woman with her son.

The whole dinner, she stared at Bella, smiled, and asked me about what she liked to eat. Bella was

being her loud, flirty, Italian self that she normally is when we go out! She kept looking at them and

busting out smiles. I guess it didn’t click until the lady asked me the same question 3X, she continued

to stare, and I noticed how frail she really looked. After they left, we were told our entire meal was

paid for. The son told the waitress to add our bill to his because he takes care of his mother, who has

Alzheimer’s, and he hasn’t seen his mother smile in years… Until tonight. Not only did she smile, she

laughed.”

I totally relate to this story for I saw the affects on my own father from Alzheimer’s. To watch someone you love lose their memory, and the ability to smile and laugh is so very painful. I was touched to know this precious child brought a smile and laughter to this woman stricken with this disease. I am equally blessed for her son that is caring for her. This could have been the encouragement that he needed to strengthen his heart. Experiences like this can minister to one’s heart, and we may never know the extent that  the Lord used this precious child.  This young mother shared with me,  “Matt and I are still speechless! I feel so encouraged now because you never know when you can change someone’s life!”

I think this is so precious, and I feel blessed to be able to share this with you today!  May we be reminded through this that we are called to carry life, light, and joy. we are called to touch the lives around us. Interesting isn’t it how we just never know how the Lord may intend to use us as we go about our day. Sometimes we may never know how being at the exact place and the exact time could maybe be for a specific reason and purpose.  May we walk in an awareness that He desires to use us as vessels for His purposes for great and wonderful things!

“You Are the Work of His Hands”

Potter A

by Dona Hake

Everyone of us are still under the molding and workmanship of the Master’s hands.  Let us be so very thankful that His hands are loving and they work with purpose. Some days we might not feel all that great on the outside and things may be a bit stormy on the inside but know this…God’s loving hand is at work in your life, and He sees  your life as precious and worthy for being  used for His plans and purposes.

Isaiah 64:8 (the Voice translation)

“Still, Eternal One, You are our Father.

We are just clay, and You are the potter.

We are the product of Your creative action, shaped and formed into something of worth.”

If you are  tempted to question your own worth I encourage you to refer to this scripture.  The world puts standards of success before us, and we need to be ever so careful that we are striving to measure to what God desires not what the world is dictating to us.   May we desire to be clay that is soft and pliable in His hands.   May our hearts be humble as He molds and stretches us that we may accomplish His will.

YOU ARE the work of His hand! God bless you.

“The Inseparable Love Of Our Lord”

nothing can separate

by Dona Hake

NOTHING can separate us. He is NEVER distant, and He will NEVER leave or forsake us.  I think this is a vital truth to meditate on for it is a truth that no one can take from us.   No situation is big enough to separate us from our loving God, and in this we can always rejoice.  Whether things are going great or it seems like everything is going wrong…NOTHING can separate us from Him and His unfailing love.

Romans 8:39 ERV
“….nothing in the whole created world—
will ever be able to separate us from the love God has shown
us in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Our lives are busy and full of many things.  We purpose to set time aside to eat, sleep, work and play.  Let us be as diligent to purposely carve out moments during the day, and dedicate them to sit in His presence, praise Him, love Him and acknowledge Him in all our ways. Talk with Him about how you feel and what you fear. Ask Him about everything that concerns you. He is bound to you by His love! Do not go by feelings and do not go by what you see. He is ALWAYS with you and nothing can separate you from Him. Today I encourage you to praise Him from the depths of your heart  because of His inseparable love for you!!

“Think On Good Things”

good thoughts

by Dona Hake

Psalm 19:14 (TLB)

“May my spoken words and unspoken thoughts

be pleasing even to you,

O Lord my Rock and my Redeemer.”

Oh what a beautiful and wonderful prayer that was prayed and recorded here in the Psalms. It would be a good thing that we would ask the Lord more often, “Is what I just said okay Lord?” or “Lord is my heart right in this matter? I think Jesus would be delighted if we would check in with Him more often and inquire of Him on these things. I think Jesus wants us to view Him as our best friend and we should be allowing our best friend to challenge our heart and bring accountability in our lives. I value the times when I feel a tug at my heart or a check in my spirit in those times that my thoughts or words are not pleasing to Him. When He is Lord of our life, we will truly welcome these disciplines.

The Lord has promised to help us with all things that pertain to life and godliness so be encouraged that it is His heart to help you walk victoriously. Paul wrote in Philippians how to keep our thoughts in line with truth. If we just purpose to think on good things…

Philippians 4:8-9Amplified Bible (AMP)

“Finally, [a]believers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable and worthy of respect, whatever is right and confirmed by God’s word, whatever is pure and wholesome, whatever is lovely and brings peace, whatever is admirable and of good repute; if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think continually on these things [center your mind on them, and implant them in your heart].  The things which you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things [in daily life], and the God [who is the source] of peace and well-being will be with you.”

As we practice thinking on good things, our spoken words and unspoken thoughts will be kept and guarded by the peace of God. I encourage you today to think upon all the good things that Paul instructed us in Philippians. It is as we do this that our thoughts, words, and actions will always line up with the will and ways of our Lord.

“Just As You See Your Own Face…”

reflection in water 2

by Dona Hake

Proverbs 27:19 (ERV)
“Just as you can see your
own face reflected in water,
so your heart reflects the
kind of person you are.”

This portion of scripture stirs my heart  to think about the true spiritual condition of my heart. If I were to stand over a crystal clear pond and look in, my reflection would answer back at me or in other words I see myself. I would see myself for exactly what I am because the reflection does not lie. When you stand in front of a mirror you can not stand there and say, “this is not me!” or “I do not look like that!” Our reflections are speaking to us and telling us exactly what we look like. So it is when we look into God’s Word, He will reveal to us our need for Him and all that He wants us to be.    If we permit Him, He will show us the kind of person we are, and also the condition of our heart.

James 1:22-25
Amplified Bible (AMP)

“”But be doers of the Word [obey the message], and not merely listeners to it, betraying yourselves [into deception by reasoning contrary to the Truth].

For if anyone only listens to the Word without obeying it and being a doer of it, he is like a man who looks carefully at his [own] natural face in a mirror;

For he thoughtfully observes himself, and then goes off and promptly forgets what he was like.

But he who looks carefully into the faultless law, the [law] of liberty, and is faithful to it and perseveres in looking into it, being not a heedless listener who forgets but an active doer [who obeys], he shall be blessed in his doing (his life of obedience).”

There will be those times in which we hear the Word and we may feel a bit convicted and we need to give heed, and be an active doer as this scripture tells us to do. This tugging at our heart is the Holy Spirit speaking to us to make changes, and this kind of change really is a good thing. This scripture is clear that we need to give heed to the Word we hear and read, and the living water of the Word will truly reveal to us the condition of our heart if we permit it to. The Lord is loving, and He will help us to make the adjustments we need to be molded into His image. Let us look carefully at ourselves in light of God’s Word and allow Him to work in us.

Lord, we ask You this day to show us the true condition of our hearts.   Help us to be reminded of the importance of remaining humble before You that You will have free reign in our hearts.   Help us to be doers and not just hearers of Your Word.  We thank You that You are able to do a wonderful and transforming work within us.   Help us also to be patient and persevering as we walk through times of change that You are desiring to work within us.   In Jesus Name we ask, amen!

“The Lord Will Provide”

supply

by Dona Hake

Have you ever seen someone walk through an extremely tough situation, and you ask yourself how you would walk through such a thing?  You may say to yourself, “Oh my…I don’t even know what I would tell someone to do in such a situation.”     I can remember one  day while watching the news one of my favorite news reporters was being interviewed regarding a tragedy.  The interviewer asked this gentleman “If you had to give words of advice relative to this situation what would you say?” His humble face showed that he did not have the answer in that present moment.   He was silent for a few seconds and then he responded, and his words touched me heart.

His response clearly indicated his faith and his belief  that if he was called upon to give advice that the Lord would speak through him with the exact words that needed to be spoken.   You see, the words the Lord fills our mouths with are always right and profitable for the moment in which one is in need.

This man’s words just refreshed my heart and reminded me that this is how life is to be lived. Many times there are problems and situations in this life that seem impossible to solve.   They may seem that there can be no good ending in sight.   Situations like this can cause us to  fear speaking to people that are dealing with difficult situations for fear we may say the wrong thing .   We may be afraid that we are not going to have the answers that we need. Yet if we trust Him we will surely see that HE WILL PROVIDE!
Today we are looking at the scripture from

Philippians 4:19
” But my God shall abundantly supply all your
need according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”

Let us be reminded that this is not just talking about material needs although God desires to provide for us in that realm. Today I want to encourage you heart that He will provide for you that which you need to know or say in your moment of need.    Next time you are called upon for counsel in a seemingly difficult or impossible situation, believe that He can open His hand and give you exactly what you need for that moment in time. He is well able to fill your mind and mouth with the counsel and direction that you need. God is good and God is able!!!
