“Love God Deeply”

by Dona Hake

“And there is something more important to God
than all the sacrifices and burnt offerings:
it’s the commandment
to constantly love God with every passion of your heart,
with your every thought,
and with all your strength—
and to love your neighbor in the same way as you love yourself.”
Mark 12:33 – The Passion Translation

Today we continue pondering the word ~deeply~. When we love God deeply, we will desire to give Him full residence in our hearts.

Let me share an analogy with you…think of your heart as a 1,000 piece puzzle. Every piece is small and necessary for the completion of it. Did you ever do a big puzzle like this to find that you cannot figure out where a few pieces fit or there was one piece missing?   Your desire would be that it would be totally complete with every piece fitting perfectly.

So it is with God, for He cares about every detail of our life, each piece is a part of His “perfect will” to be done in us. Yet His perfect will requires all of our passion, all of our strength, and to love Him with all of our heart.

Today as you ponder loving God deeply, and with every part of your heart I leave you with this fun little story of a sweet moment of teaching I had when I was teaching preschoolers.

Many years ago I was teaching eight little preschool boys about serving God with their whole heart, and not being half-hearted.
I said, “Why does Jesus want us to worship Him with our whole heart?”   One little boy raised his hand and said,

“Jesus doesn’t want us to be half-hearted cuz
He is too big to live in half a heart!”
