“Cutting Down Imaginations”

by Dona Hake

We continue with Psalm 118. The Psalmist exclaimed that all the nations surrounded him but in the Name of the Lord he cut them down. They surrounded him and swarmed around him like bees but he again…cut them down!

The psalmist understood his weapons, and how to use them. He knew his God, and also understood his God was on his side. Our loving God is on our side, and he wants us to use our weapons to cut down anything that would try to pit itself against the truth that we know. Let us look at the Scriptures…

“The weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood]. Our weapons are divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying sophisticated arguments and every exalted and proud thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought and purpose captive to the obedience of Christ…”
2 Corinthians 10:4-5 – Amplified Version

The devil has erected strongholds against God’s Word. The enemy has his fortresses, and they can be very strong but our God is greater and stronger. He comes to us in many ways with arguments and ideas. Anything he can come up with to weaken us he will pursue. In the realm of our mind the devil will try to torment us with imaginations.   Many times imaginations can bring great anxiety, and that reminds me of bees swarming around us.   Imaginations and anxiety together can bring great fear.   We need to determine ourselves that we will take every wrong imagination, every wrong emotion and cut it down in the Name of Jesus! It is as we press in with all diligence guarding our minds, staying full of faith, and make this a way of life that we will live victoriously for our Lord.
