“His Still Waters-A Reflection In His Mirror”

by Dona Hake
Have you ever stood over still water, and observed your own reflection? It too is like a mirror. Today we continue our meditation upon God‘s Word being His mirror.

Let us look at those times you are hearing or reading God‘s Word, and He gently and sweetly strikes at your heart.   Sometimes our minds can be so full of what we think is important that we are missing what our Lord is seeing.   In those times it  is like He is tugging you to draw near to understand something in a deeper way. It may be something you never realized about yourself before. These are those special moments where He is gently leading you to the still water where He stands beside you and you gaze at your reflection…you standing beside of Him.  These are those special times that He desires for us. He desires we gaze into His Word as we spend time in His presence.

Today I encourage you to set time aside to be still before Him, and set your gaze upon Him. Listen to His whisper of direction and maybe even correction. Drink of those still waters that will restore your soul. Permit Him to speak to your heart about things that you need to deal with or grow in that you may flourish in His specific will for you.

“He lets me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still and quiet waters. He refreshes and restores my soul (life); He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.”
Psalm 23:2-3 -The Amplified Version

“The Treasure of Your Heart”

gods word our hidden treasure

by Dona Hake

Matthew 6:19-20 (AMP)

“Do not store up for yourselves [material] treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.  But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in and steal…”

When we purpose to store the beautiful treasures that are only birthed by Him, we will know and understand that they cannot be taken from us. Material things come and go because they wear out or their worth may fade. Material things are just not enough to satisfy the yearning of man’s heart. The heavenly treasures most assuredly cannot be touched. Right now as I am writing this devotional my heart is thinking about what a treasure it is when we receive light and revelation from His Word. The more we meditate upon it the stronger and richer that truth becomes to us. His Word is such a precious treasure, and we need to guard it with all diligence.

Proverbs 4:23 (Amplified)

Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance
and above all that you guard, for out of it
flow the springs of life.

Today I encourage you to look up!  Look up and remind yourself of all the wonderful things that He has touched your heart and life with.  These ARE the treasures of our life. These treasures cannot be bought but only received with humble hearts. There are treasures and blessings all around you, and He desires that we embrace them with a  heart of thankfulness, and that we would never take any good thing for granted.  It is God that is the giver of all good things and today we can praise Him for that!

when jesus calls you to step out of the boad

by Dona Hake

Today I want to share about doing things that seem impossible. We serve a God that wants to keep our hearts challenged to live by faith. We must dare to step out and serve Him even when it looks to us like we cannot do it. Today we will look at a wonderful account of Jesus doing the supernatural and inviting one of His disciples to join Hi

The disciples were in their boat and Jesus had told them to head to the other side because He planned to meet up with them later. Jesus was spending time in prayer as He desired to be alone with his Heavenly Father. Matthew’s account of the story is as follows:

Matthew 14:25-31 (Easy to Read Version)
“Between three and six o’clock in the morning, Jesus’ followers were still in
the boat. Jesus came to them. He was walking on the water. When they saw
him walking on the water, it scared them. “It’s a ghost!” they said,
screaming in fear. But Jesus quickly spoke to them. He said, “Don’t worry!
It’s me! Don’t be afraid.” Peter said, “Lord, if that is really you, tell me to
come to you on the water.” Jesus said, “Come, Peter.” Then Peter left the
boat and walked on the water to Jesus. But while Peter was walking on the
water, he saw the wind and the waves. He was afraid and began sinking into
the water. He shouted, “Lord, save me!” Then Jesus caught Peter with his
hand. He said, “Your faith is small. Why did you doubt?”

I think there are so many lessons to learn from this portion of scripture. Peter always seems to be remembered for being the dear old soul that was always sticking his foot in his mouth. Isn’t it interest that it was  the disciples that were frightened as they saw someone on the water walking towards them, but it was Peter that stepped out in his heart first to find out what was going on. When he asked, “Lord, IF that’s you…tell me to come.” Peter was at least willing to get out of the boat. I made emphasize on the words “But while Peter was walking on the water…” Let us be reminded here that Peter was doing the exact same miracle that Jesus was.

So many read this and place emphasis that Peter was moved by the wind and the waves and he sunk. Let us focus on the fact that Peter WAS walking on the water. Even if it was only a few steps, I always think about the faith that was in his heart that caused him to try and reach the Lord by way of the impossible in the natural.   I find it interesting as well that he was that  close to Jesus when he began to sink, and all Jesus had to do was reach out and grab his hand.  Really, Peter was almost there.

Peter was walking in the miracle yet his reasoning made him begin to sink.  Think about it…Peter was on top of the water bypassing all laws of nature.   I can only imagine how wonderful and awesome those few seconds of his faith were.   Peter just simply permitted his reasoning to challenge and pull down his faith.  There may be times that we are only an arm’s reach away from victory and circumstances seem to weaken us.     Many times it is when we are closest to victory that the devil will try to distract us with anything that will tempt us to reason away the Word of God on which we are standing. Think about it…simple reasoning of what Peter’s eye’s saw and what his ear’s heard caused him to begin to go down.  I will leave you with this scripture:

Proverbs 3:5 (NASB)
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.”

I want to challenge your heart with this story. Many times Jesus is calling us out of our “boats” and these “boats”  are actually our comfort zones. He is calling us to cry out for courage to get out of our comfort zone, and walk in a whole different realm. This realm or new task He may be calling us to walk in may challenge our faith like never before.

As we trust Him, He will give us all that we need to do that which He desires to accomplish in us. We serve a God that is always an arm’s reach away from us, so let us trust in Him and not be moved by what we see or hear!  Accept the challenges that the Lord sets before you to step out of your comfort zone, and walk toward Him with unwavering faith.

There is power in the heart that seeks to be humble. The humble heart will always be yielding to see that which is right in the eyes of God. The humble heart does not seek to verbalize it’s opinion but rather at seeks what God has to say about every matter. The Psalmist David in Psalm 131:1 prays to his God with a humble heart…

“O Eternal One, my heart is not occupied with proud thoughts; my eyes do not look down on others; I don’t even begin to get involved in matters too big, matters of faith, state, business, or the many things that defy my ability to understand them .”
Psalm 131:1 -the Voice translation

We must recognize the things that provoke us to think about things that we have no business thinking about. You know… the things that set our mind spinning, and therefore our opinions begin to come out of our mouth. Living our life prayerfully will keep us clear minded and our hearts guarded. As we seek Him for His guidance and provision, He promises to cover our life with all that we need. That includes the wisdom in guarding our thoughts, opinions, and it provides us power over thoughts that would serve to take us down. He will give us that peace that this world cannot touch, and that peace will lead our thoughts and guard our our tongues.

“…and You Will Yield”

“The value of the field is in the yield.
The hard stone does not yield.”
Arthur Burt

Oh that our hearts would remain broken and humbled that the great words of our Lord are able to take root and yield  its eternal potential. The psalmist cried out in one of the psalms… “Oh God! Create in me a clean heart!” I believe as this is the cry of our heart we will be able to recognize when we are resisting the work of our Lord in our hearts. There are many reasons that hearts get hardened  but the important thing to know as a believer is  if we are diligently guarding our hearts that this will not happen.   Our Lord spoke in simple stories to deliver profound truths about the Kingdom of God.   This portion of scripture describes the different conditions of one’s heart and how it affects the yield of the Word in us.  Let us read…

“You then, hear the parable of the sower. When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and doesn’t understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the one having been sown along the road. “The one sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy. Yet he has no root himself but lasts only a short while; and when trouble or persecution comes because of the word, immediately he falls away. “But the one sown among the thorns, this is the one who hears the word; and the worries of the world and the seduction of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. “Now the one sown on the good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands. He indeed bears fruit, yielding a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty times what was sown.”  Matthew 1318-23 TLV

“But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And on His law [His precepts and teachings] he [habitually] meditates day and night. And he will be like a tree firmly planted [and fed] by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season; Its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers [and comes to maturity].”
(AMP)

These scriptures show the simplicity of how to live before God with a heart that yields according to His plan and will for our life. Delight in God‘s Word, and meditate upon it, be a doer and we will be blessed.    We will  be firmly planted and continually fed as we draw upon the Living Water. We will absolutely yield fruit, and our  leaves will always be green and flourishing. Whatever we put our hands to will not only prosper but will come to maturity and we will be a field of great value to our Lord.

oh that my actions

by Dona Hake

Oh that we would consistently reflect the Lord’s ways!  The psalmist wrote this, and he spoke his heart’s desire to reflect all that was right and good that he could represent God according to the decrees he knew.   We too should desire this.   The Amplified version of this scripture shares the secret to doing this in four words.   We need to truly hear, receive, love, and obey His Word.

Psalm 119:5Amplified Bible (AMP)

“Oh, that my ways were directed and established

to observe Your statutes
[hearing, receiving, loving, and obeying them]!”

Have you ever heard something, and it went in one ear and out the other?   We have all been guilty of that one.  Yet, God wants us to be cautious that we do not do that when we hear the living Word of His truth.    May we hear it, and take hold of it, and receive to be our very own revelation.   As we hold fast to it, love, and obey it, we will indeed reflect His decrees.   Let us be faithful to read and study His Word.   It is as we meditate and reflect upon the Word that it will grow within our hearts.

“I will study your commandments and reflect on your ways.”
Psalms 119:15    NLT

Lord, we ask you to help us to remember that as we are here on this earth, you desire to live in and through us.   We are your vessels, and we long to radiate and reflect Your life, light, and love in all that we do.   Keep us humble Lord, and show us those things that would hinder us from reflecting You fully.  We thank you for Your great and awesome works that you plan to do through us.  Lord, “You are good and kind and do good; teach me Your statutes.”    Psalms 119:68  (Amp.)

Upcoming B

Every Step I Take

I truly believe that the believer that has submitted their will to the Lord and has made a decision to obey Him can truly know that He will direct his paths.   Jesus has promised to never leave nor forsake us.  He has promised to lead, guide us and direct us with His wisdom at every turn. I am sure you can identify at times where things seemed a bit hard to understand.  Maybe things were unfolding totally differently than how you thought it would go.  On top of it all, it is making you feel a bit uneasy because you have been bumped out of your comfort zone.

This proverb counsels us not to worry if we do not totally understand everything as it happens.  Instead, let us take heart and fear not for God is on our side and He will cause us to rise victoriously and cross the finish line.

Proverbs 20:24 (VOICE)
“Every one of our steps is directed by Him;
so how can we attempt to figure out our own way?”

This scripture exhorts my heart to be reminded to never try to figure things out too far ahead for I do not know all that God has in store for me in my journey.  It causes me also to be mindful that I should be casting all my care upon Him because as He cares for me, all will be well with my soul as He works His beautiful plan in my life.

“The First Thing…”

by Dona Hake

“The first thing about being real is
facing the truth
where you are not real.”

Arthur Burt

If our hearts are not pure this will surely affect not only how we see things around us but how we see ourselves. While in North Wales visiting Brother Arthur, he was exhorting us to be real with ourselves that our Lord would be able to deal with us as He wishes. May we guard ourselves from being self deceived. We must be real. A pure heart does not have impure motives nor does the pure heart feel comfortable being a pretender.

“Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a right and steadfast spirit within me.”
Psalm 51:10 – Amplified version

Let us purpose to be in pursuit of a clean heart before God. May we daily be renewed and refreshed by the power of His grace and the work of His Spirit. I love the word ~steadfast~ in this scripture from Psalm 51:10. That word ministers to my heart for it shows me that I need to be fixed in my direction, firm in purpose, and in resolution. As we desire clean, pure hearts, we will immediately recognize when the impure is trying to dwell within us. The humble heart will cry out for Him to clean and renew his or her heart.

It is when we are truly real with ourselves that the Holy Spirit is free to work in great depths within us. It is when we are truly real with ourselves that we will face, and receive the truth in every area of our lives. It will be liberating to us and we will welcome the work of the Holy Spirit that He desires to accomplish in us.

“…and HE SHALL!”

heart strengthened

by Dona Hake

Oh how our loving Lord desires that we meditate on how He will always show up as we wait upon Him. As we wait upon Him with faith in our hearts we can view it as a time of expecting from Him, knowing that He will do what needs to be done in His perfect timing and in His perfect way.

Psalm 27:14 King James version
“Wait on the Lord: be of good courage,
and He shall strengthen thine heart:
wait, I say, on the Lord.”

I want to make emphasis on three words in the scripture.and they “AND HE SHALL.” The scripture does not say “Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and it is likely He will strengthen your heart.” Nor does it say “Wait on the Lord: be a good courage and perhaps He will strengthen your heart.“ No! It says, “He shall.“ If He said He shall then our faithful God absolutely will!
Remember in those times of waiting after you have released your faith that He shall show up for you for He is good, He is faithful, and He is all knowing. Praise the Lord today for His faithful, loving care over our life!
