“The Word Stands Forever”

by Dona Hake

The gentleman stood before the camera as he was being interviewed by a TV new’s team.   He had just returned to the place he once called home, and behind him were the ruins of his home that had burned to the ground.    If you have been following the news you have seen the wildfires of California, and how they have devastated the lives of many, many have died, and there are those that are still not accounted for.    As the gentleman was sharing his reaction to losing it all, he looked into the camera and said “This is the one thing that did not burn!”  He clutched and held up his Bible, and although he lost everything, I am sure he knew this was not a coincidence. There was this place he once called home, and it was totally gone, but His Bible, the  Word of God endured the heat and the fire’s destruction.

I was immediately reminded of the fact that no matter what happens in this life we can most assuredly know that the Word of God is what we will always have to stand upon.  As we trust in His Word, we can be unshakable even if our world has been shaken.   In the face of trials we can proclaim, “All is well with my soul!”.

I truly believe the Lord uses such signs and miraculous things like this gentleman experienced to remind us that we need to keep our minds set on things above and not on the things of this earth.  The Scriptures tell us….

“Our lives are like the grass of spring, and any glory we enjoy is like the beauty of a wildflower. The grass dries up and dies, and the flower falls to the ground. But the word of the Lord lasts forever.” And that word is the Good News that was told to you.
1 Peter 1:24-25 – ERV
Human beings are frail and temporary, like grass, and the glory of man fleeting like blossoms of the field. The grass dries and withers and the flowers fall off, but the Word of the Lord endures forever! And this is the Word that was announced to you!
